Product Description
Tantra is very popular but not many people understand its real meaning. Mahamudra Tantra offers beginners a clear and inspiring introduction to Tantra, while experienced Tantric practitioners will find the six stages of Mahamudra training to be a practical and engaging spiritual path. Mahamudra is a Sanskrit word which means the sublime union of great bliss and emptiness, the very essence of Buddha’s Tantric meditation.

When this book first came out I was suprised because I found that with my job it was often difficult for me to practice all the meditations I have been given teachings on, namely Sutra meditations like the preciousness of our human life, Renunciation, Equalizing and Exchanging Self and others, Bodhichitta and so forth as well as do the vast array of Generation and Completion stage practices.
I was suprised because Mahamudra Tantra is all about how to integrate all our daily practices into one simple practice. Of course, when time allows, I do more extensive practice but when I have little time, I can fulfill all my daily meditational aspirations in one session and feel confident that I've not taken any shortcuts.
This book is great if you have been meditating on Lam Rim or Buddha's Mahayana Sutra teachings for awhile and have not yet taken a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment. There are clear explanations of basic Buddhist view and Intention that are prerequisits for Tantric practice as well as explanations of the purpose of the Generation and Completion Stages (of which Vajrayana Mahamudra is included)of Highest Yoga Tantra. Then, of course are the two sets of uncommon Mahamudra meditations.
This is not a "beginner" book but it can be very profound for someone who wants to understand what is possible in our spirtual development and how progressing towards enlightnement, if that is your goal, does not have to be hard.

Enlightment does not come in a bottle

I read this book over and over and was still left with countless questions. This book merely broaches the subject of Tantra without any clarity. Further reading by mainstream and authentic authors, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, yielded the unanimous consensus that Tantra should not be tried at all without the guidance of a qualified spiritual teacher. Only Gyatso seems to believe otherwise.
Additionally, this book is packed with nonsense, such as enlightenment is attainable in only 3 years and 3 months if the instructions contained within are followed. Enlightenment does not come in a bottle and it does not come in this cloudy and preachy "new age" book. If you want to fool yourself to believe otherwise, I have another bridge to nowhere to sell you.
Furthermore, this claustrophobic book does not feature a bibliography. The author only references himself as if he is the sole expert on the Dharma. As with all of Gyatso's writings, he does not support his certainty on the subject other than to establish himself as the only authority on the subject.
If you can blindly trust him and believe that only one author can cover the depth of Buddhism, as many seem to be able to do, you will end up with a claustrophobic view of the Dharma.
Reading other books by genuine authorities on Buddhism such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama would serve the reader far better.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's exquisite book Mahamudra Tantra, is a practical guide to discovering the real meaning of human life. Mahamudra Tantra is a quick method for attaining elightenment, a state of existence that is free from suffering, and the instructions for qualified Tantric practice are extremely profound. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso explains them in such a clear manner, that those who have never heard of the word Tantra before picking up this book, will have an immediate understanding of what Tantra is, and why developing a strong foundation of basic correct view and good intention is essential.
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso dispells many of the myths and confusion associated with Tantra, and explains the real meaning of Tantra, how to transform our attachment into the spiritual path. He gives a very specific definition of Tantra: an inner realization that functions to prevent ordinary appearances and conceptions and to accomplish the four complete purities (pure environment, body, enjoyments and activities.)
I found these instructions so helpful living in today's modern world. It seems to be so easy to get sucked into all the distractions of daily life, and this book presents a methodology that allows us to have a pure and more meaningful experience of the world while still engaging in our normal, everyday activities like going to work, being in a relationship, spending time with family etc..
I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in gaining a deep, profound experience of meditation and learning more about Tantra, what it is, and why it is the quick path to enlightenment.

This is an amazing book. It explains the most profound meditations on Highest Yoga Tantra, the quickest path to enlightenment, in a way that is clear and practical. Following the Buddhist path to enlightenment never seemed so clear and easy!
This book is such a blessing and on every page, the author's experience shines. It's obviously written by someone who has 'walked the talk' and understands what is needed to attain profound spiritual experiences. A priceless gem - I can't recommend it highly enough.
